By the side of the road
To me, to take pictures means to go through life looking. This is different from going through life with open eyes for that does not necessarily mean to see something. Yes, in order to see, one has to open ones eyes yet in order to really see one needs to look.
Typical Switzerland
This picture I took on a cloudy day in September 2025 near Schmerikon. The property borders the Lake of Zurich. How come I decided to take this not exactly impressive pic? It's to do with one of the the most Swiss characteristics there is: Privacy.
Lausanne, Chemin des Fleurettes
Diese Aufnahme von mir hat mein Bruder Thomas Mitte der 1980er Jahre am Chemin des Fleurettes in Lausanne gemacht, wo wir damals wohnten. Er studierte in Genf, ich arbeite als Verlagsleiter in Basel. Als ich 2025 wieder vorbeikam, stand "unser" Haus noch, doch die Bäckerei auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite, wo eine wunderschöne junge Frau bediente, für die ich schwärmte, mich aber nie traute, sie anzusprechen, gibt es nicht mehr. Ansonsten schien mir die Gegend weitestgehend unverändert, allerdings weiss ich aus Erfahrung, dass das Gedächtnis oft höchst kreativ unterwegs ist ...
By the side of the road
Santa Cruz do Sul, Brasil, 29 December 2022 I stopped wondering why, once I discovered a flower new to me, I take picture after picture of the same flower which, needless to say, is never the same but every time another – it is just the way I am.
An exotic plant
Santa Cruz do Sul, 28 December 2021 I've taken numerous pictures of the plant pictured here. Everything fascinated me about it although I could say this of pretty much any plant. As regards the reasons why I seemed to take a special liking to this one, I can of course only guess. It's the shape, the coulour, of course, but this could also be said about any other plant. In the end, I surmise, it's to do with the fact that to my Swiss trained eyes it looked so utterly exotic.
Schmetterling
Safien, 13. August 2021 Alte Fotos betrachtend stosse ich auch auf diese Aufnahme vom 13. August 2021 in Safien. Ich bin vom Glasspass ins Safiental runtergestiegen und erinnere mich nur noch, dass der Weg nicht der einfachste gewesen war und es galt, aufzupassen, wo man hintrat. Heutzutage wundere ich mich, was Menschen wohl bewegen mag, in diesem Tal zu leben. Genauso schleierhaft ist mir allerdings, was so viele in die Stadt treibt.
