In Rio Pardo

Rio Pardo, Brazil, 17 January 2026

It is not the first time that my Brazilian hosts invited me for lunch
at the river restaurant in Rio Pardo where the main and most popular menu
is fish and chips.

The photo above had been taken from that restaurant which has been moved
from its previous location at the same river, due to the devastating floods and 
inundations of late April 2024.

To me, lunch there felt like it has always felt; the human ability to forget
strikes me increasingly as incomprehensible.

Santa Cruz do Sul, 26 January 2026 I'm writing this on the evening of Monday, 26 Januar 2026. Exactly a week ago, I got so furious when taking in my usual dosis of information, that all of sudden I turned off my laptop and said to myself: That is enough, I'm not going to give my attention anymore to people I consider  power hungry, utterly vain and thoroughly nuts. It is beyond me why I've never seriously questioned my addiction to the news; that  the  fact that I'm a news junkie never really bothered me. Unter der Treppe

Santa Cruz do Sul, 30. Januar 2025 Diese Blume befindet sich unterhalb einer Treppe. Es ist offensichtlich, dass ich nur einen Teil davon aufgenommen  habe, was daran liegt, dass die vorangegangenen Versuche, die die vollständigen Blumen (es waren zwei) einrahmen wollten, nicht wirklich gelungen waren. Und so habe ich jetzt zwar eine ganz andere Blume vor Augen, die mir jedoch auch die beiden Blumen ins Gedächtnis rufen, die nicht auf dem Bild zu sehen ist. Was wieder einmal unterstreicht, dass wir nur sehen können, was wir wissen.
