Fallen Leaves

I photograph what I find, encounter, and come across.
 I never arrange anything before I take a picture. There is 
no conviction or ideology behind this approach. It is just
what I do and I would think it is in my nature to go about 
taking pictures in this way.

Many photographers, I understand, claim to know how a picture
should look like. What they do is to photograph the pictures in their 
heads. My goal however is to get out of the prison of my head.

These pics were taken on a cloudy day in Gamagori, Japan, on 28 April 2019. It was the door and the flowers in front that had called my attention.  Neither the woman nor the man I had seen approaching  –  both had caught me by surprise. That I had the presence of mind to record these two chance encounters still surprises me. I take photographs of whatever my eyes deem attractive. There is no plan, no specific  idea that I'm pursuing.   It is about being ready for what comes my way. My framing is intuitive.

The little girl & the butterfly

When the two-year-old daughter of friends spotted the butterfly on the wall, she signalled to me in no uncertain terms that she wanted to be lifted up so she could, as I assumed, touch the butterfly. Avenida do Imigrante, Santa Cruz do Sul

Zum ersten  Mal aufgefallen sind mir die drei an der Mauerwand hängenden Blumentöpfe vor drei Jahren. Als ich heute, am 2. Februar 2024, daran vorbei ging, erinnerte ich mich, dass sie damals, am späteren Nachmittag, viel längere Schatten warfen als an diesem Morgen. Dann drehte ich mich zur Seite und bemerkte diese Pflanzen, die ich damals auch fotografiert hatte, doch jetzt, im Morgenschatten, wirken sie gleichzeitig vertraut/unvertraut. Dazu kommt, dass Fotos etwas ganz anderes sind als die realen Blumen, die sich meiner Kamera präsentierten. Ceci n'est pas une pipe kommentierte bekanntlich René Magritte sein Bild einer Pfeife. Das gilt auch für Fotos von  Pflanzen, die keine Pflanzen, sondern Fotos von Pflanzen zeigen.
